Description
Mespilia globulus, commonly known as the Tuxedo Urchin, is a small and highly effective algae-grazing echinoderm valued for both its utility and distinctive appearance. This species is easily recognized by its rounded body covered in short, alternating bands of deep blue, black, and white spines, giving it the appearance of a miniature “tuxedo.” Slow-moving and methodical, the Tuxedo Urchin spends its time grazing across rockwork and hard surfaces, making it an excellent natural solution for controlling nuisance algae in reef aquariums.
