Zoanthus spp., known collectively as the Zoanthids or “Zoas,” are among the most colorful and diverse soft corals in the reef aquarium hobby. Each polyp resembles a miniature flower, displaying an endless array of color combinations—from radiant neons and deep metallics to ultra-rare morphs like Rainbow Incinerators, Utter Chaos, and Rastas. Highly adaptive and visually striking, Zoanthids can form dense mats that blanket rockwork with vibrant color, making them a staple in both beginner and collector-level reef aquariums. Their resilience, growth rate, and breathtaking variety make them one of the most rewarding coral groups to cultivate.
Lighting: Moderate to high (100–200 PAR); color intensity and contrast are best under blue-dominant LED lighting—acclimate slowly to prevent polyp closure
Flow: Moderate; prefers variable, indirect flow that promotes gas exchange and keeps detritus from accumulating on the colony
Placement: Bottom to mid-level on rock or rubble; ideal for isolated islands or frag racks to manage spreading
