Acan Bowerbanki – Acanthastrea bowerbanki

Micromussa / Acanthastrea bowerbanki, commonly known as the Acan Bowerbanki , is a premium large-polyp stony (LPS) coral revered for its thick fleshy polyps, bold skeletal ridges, and vibrant coloration. Found in deep reef slopes and shaded areas, M. bowerbanki exhibits a broad palette ranging from glowing reds, oranges, and yellows to emerald greens and metallic rainbows. Distinguished from Acanthastrea lordhowensis by its larger, more pronounced corallites and intricate skeletal patterning, the Bowerbanki is a stunning, hardy addition to any LPS collection.

Lighting: Low to moderate (50–120 PAR); prefers subdued light for deeper, richer coloration
Flow: Low to moderate; gentle, indirect flow prevents debris buildup while allowing full polyp expansion
Placement: Bottom to middle regions of the aquarium on stable rockwork or sand; avoid direct powerhead output
Temperature: 76–82°F (24–28°C)
Salinity: 1.024–1.026 SG
pH: 8.1–8.4
Alkalinity: 8–11 dKH
Calcium: 420–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250–1400 ppm
Nutrients: Moderate nutrient levels (NO₃ 5–15 ppm, PO₄ 0.05–0.15 ppm) promote robust growth and intense coloration
Feeding: Readily accepts small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, LPS pellets, and finely minced seafood; target feed 2–3 times per week for optimal tissue expansion and color
Aggression: Moderate; extends sweeper tentacles up to 5–7 cm at night—allow space between colonies
Growth Rate: Moderate; grows steadily under consistent alkalinity and nutrient stability
Care Level: Easy to intermediate – adaptable and resilient once established in stable water conditions
Compatibility: Semi-aggressive; best placed with other LPS or soft corals, maintaining sufficient distance from high-aggression species such as Euphyllia or Catalaphyllia
