Wellsophyllia – Trachyphyllia radiata

Trachyphyllia radiata, commonly referred to in the trade as Wellsophyllia, is a spectacular large-polyp stony (LPS) coral renowned for its wide, open structure and dazzling coloration. Often mistaken for Trachyphyllia geoffroyi, this coral typically forms a flatter, more circular shape with broader ridges and a smoother overall texture. Wellsophyllia exhibits a mesmerizing range of hues—from glowing greens and oranges to deep red and metallic rainbow morphs—and makes a stunning centerpiece for sandbed displays.

Lighting: Low to moderate (50–120 PAR); prefers indirect, blue-spectrum lighting that enhances fluorescence and minimizes tissue stress
Flow: Low to moderate; gentle, variable flow is ideal to prevent debris accumulation while allowing full polyp inflation
Placement: Bottom of the aquarium on soft sand or smooth rock surface; avoid sharp or rough edges that may damage delicate tissue
