Description

WWC Toxic Slimer – Acropora yongei

Acropora yongei, famously known in the aquarium trade as the WWC Toxic Slimer, is a legendary Acropora variety prized for its intense neon-green coloration and rapid growth. Originating from the renowned World Wide Corals (WWC) lineage, this strain is instantly recognizable by its luminous, almost radioactive hue and distinctive, smooth-branched growth pattern. When mature, the coral forms thick, upward-reaching branches with contrasting white growth tips, making it a striking focal piece in any SPS-dominated reef system.

Lighting: High (250–400 PAR); develops its signature fluorescent green coloration under strong blue-dominant LED or hybrid T5/LED lighting
Flow: Strong and turbulent; thrives in alternating, chaotic flow patterns that keep branches free of debris and promote even nutrient exchange
Placement: Upper regions of the aquarium with ample space for vertical and radial growth; avoid shading and ensure full light exposure across branches
Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
pH: 8.1–8.4
Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH; must remain stable to prevent tip burn or tissue loss
Calcium: 420–460 ppm
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Nutrients: Low to moderate (NO₃ 2–10 ppm, PO₄ 0.02–0.08 ppm); slight nutrient presence enhances coloration and prevents pastel fading
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic but benefits from weekly broadcast feeding of microplankton, reef roids, or amino acids to promote polyp extension and growth
Aggression: Low; non-stinging, but may overgrow slower SPS species if placed too closely
Growth Rate: Fast; among the most rapid-growing Acropora species when provided strong light and flow
Care Level: Advanced – sensitive to parameter fluctuations but extremely rewarding under consistent conditions
Compatibility: Peaceful; ideal for mixed SPS environments and high-energy reef crests; maintain distance from delicate LPS corals
