Description
Tail-Less Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma veliferum)
A large and impressive surgeonfish known for its tall, sail-like dorsal and anal fins covered in striking vertical stripes. Active and constantly grazing, this species adds movement and bold patterning to large marine aquariums.
Native:
Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, Philippines, Great Barrier Reef, and surrounding reef systems.
Lighting:
Moderate to high reef lighting.
Placement:
Active mid to upper tank swimmer. Requires extensive open swimming space and well-established live rock for grazing. Minimum tank size: 180 gallons (680+ liters).

Diet:

Compatibility:
Generally reef-safe. Compatible with angelfish, wrasses, rabbitfish, and larger peaceful to semi-aggressive marine species.

Note: Like all surgeonfish, it possesses a sharp caudal spine (“scalpel”) for defense — handle with care.
