Description

Acanthurus fowleri, commonly known as Fowler’s Tang, is a highly sought-after surgeonfish recognized for its refined coloration, elegant body shape, and rarity within the marine aquarium trade. Mature specimens develop a sophisticated blend of metallic grey, blue, and bronze tones accented by fine facial markings and subtle iridescence that shift under reef lighting. Its sleek profile and constant cruising behavior give it a commanding yet graceful presence in large marine systems.

Native to the Indo-Pacific, Fowler’s Tang inhabits outer reef slopes and lagoons where it actively grazes on algae throughout the day. Compared to more commonly available tang species, it is encountered far less frequently in the trade, particularly in large, well-conditioned specimens.
