Description
The Neon Goby is a small, peaceful, reef-safe cleaner goby recognized by its dark blue-black body with a bright electric-blue stripe running along each side. It is an excellent community fish and is well known for its natural cleaning behavior, picking parasites and dead tissue from larger fish. Despite its small size, it is active, hardy, and full of personality.
Lighting:
Low to moderate.
Adaptable to normal reef lighting. Provide rockwork, crevices, and shaded areas where it can perch and retreat.
Placement (Aquarium Zone):
Lower to middle — usually perches on rockwork, coral structures, and cleaning stations while occasionally venturing into open water.

Diet:

Naturally feeds on parasites, mucus, dead tissue, and tiny organisms collected from other fish and surrounding surfaces. In aquariums, it should still receive supplemental feeding rather than relying entirely on cleaning behavior.

Important Notes:
Neon Gobies are generally reef safe and make excellent additions to peaceful community aquariums. They may establish a preferred cleaning station where larger fish visit to have parasites and dead tissue removed.
They can be kept singly, as a compatible pair, or in suitable groups in larger aquariums. Multiple individuals may establish territories, so provide plenty of rockwork and hiding places.
Despite their cleaning behavior, a Neon Goby should not be expected to obtain all of its nutrition from cleaning other fish. Regular supplemental feeding is important.
They are excellent candidates for smaller reef aquariums because of their tiny adult size, but they still benefit from mature rockwork and stable water quality.

💡 Reef Keeper Tip:
Give your Neon Goby plenty of small perching spots and rockwork so it can establish a cleaning station. Offer tiny meaty foods regularly, and avoid housing it with large predators that could easily mistake this 2-inch fish for food.
