Description

The Staghorn Coral, is a fast-growing small-polyp stony (SPS) coral renowned for its branching, antler-like structure and vibrant coloration. Often exhibiting shades of green, blue, purple, cream, or neon highlights at the growth tips, Staghorn corals bring height, movement, and architectural complexity to reef aquariums. Their open branching form creates natural reef structure while providing habitat for fish and invertebrates.

Native to shallow, high-energy reef environments across the Indo-Pacific, Staghorn corals are a hallmark of mature reef systems and a strong indicator of excellent water quality and stability.

Lighting: High (250–400 PAR); requires strong, stable lighting—coloration and growth are best under high-intensity LED or hybrid systems
Flow: High, turbulent; benefits from strong, randomized flow to deliver oxygen and nutrients while preventing detritus buildup
Placement: Upper areas of the aquarium with ample space for upward and outward growth
Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
pH: 8.1–8.4
Alkalinity: 8–9 dKH (stability is critical)
Calcium: 420–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Nutrients: Low to moderate (NO₃ 1–10 ppm, PO₄ 0.02–0.08 ppm); ultra-low nutrients may reduce color and growth
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic; benefits indirectly from broadcast feeding of fine planktonic foods and amino acids
Aggression: Low; non-aggressive but sensitive to contact with aggressive corals
Growth Rate: Fast; one of the quickest-growing corals when conditions are optimal
Care Level: Advanced – requires excellent water quality, strong lighting, high flow, and consistent parameters
Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable for SPS-dominant or mixed reefs with careful placement away from aggressive LPS corals
