Description

Euphyllia glabrescens, commonly known as the Torch Coral, is a highly sought-after large-polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles and intense visual movement. Characterized by extended, single-tipped tentacles that sway dramatically in the current, Torch Coral adds height, motion, and elegance to reef aquariums. Its bold presence and vivid contrast under blue-spectrum lighting make it a centerpiece coral in LPS-dominant and mixed reef systems.

Native to Indo-Pacific reef environments, Torch Corals thrive in stable aquariums with moderate lighting and controlled flow.

Lighting: Moderate (100–200 PAR); prefers stable lighting—excessive intensity may cause tissue stress or bleaching
Flow: Moderate; indirect, oscillating flow allows tentacles to extend fully without tearing
Placement: Bottom to mid-level areas with ample clearance for tentacle extension
Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
Salinity: 1.0265 SG (35 PPT)
pH: 8.1–8.4
Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
Calcium: 420–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Nutrients: Moderate; stable nutrients support polyp extension and coloration
Feeding: Photosynthetic but benefits from target feeding 1–2 times weekly with mysis shrimp, reef roids, or finely chopped meaty foods
Aggression: High; possesses long, potent sweeper tentacles—allow 15–20 cm spacing from other corals
Growth Rate: Moderate; branching varieties propagate faster under optimal conditions
Care Level: Easy to Intermediate – hardy when stable parameters and proper spacing are maintained
Compatibility: Aggressive; best kept with ample separation from other LPS and SPS corals
