Description
Ultra Lobophyllia – Lobophyllia hemprichii
Lobophyllia hemprichii, offered here as the Ultra Lobophyllia, is a showpiece LPS coral celebrated for its incredible coloration, meaty texture, and sculptural folds. This premium-grade specimen exhibits intense hues of crimson, violet, blue, and gold that glow vividly under actinic and blue-spectrum lighting, giving it an almost metallic appearance. The deep ridges and plump lobes expand fully in stable conditions, creating an unmistakable centerpiece for any reef aquarium.
Lighting: Low to moderate (50–150 PAR); blue-spectrum LEDs enhance fluorescence and depth of color—avoid direct, intense light
Flow: Low to moderate; prefers gentle, indirect flow to allow full polyp inflation and prevent tissue damage
Placement: Bottom to middle regions on smooth rock or sand substrate; ensure sufficient space for tissue expansion and sweeper tentacle reach
Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C)
Salinity: 1.024–1.026 SG
pH: 8.1–8.4
Alkalinity: 8–10 dKH
Calcium: 420–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm
Nutrients: Moderate (NO₃ 5–15 ppm, PO₄ 0.05–0.10 ppm); slightly nutrient-rich water enhances tissue thickness and color intensity
Feeding: Photosynthetic but benefits greatly from target feeding 1–2 times weekly with mysis shrimp, reef roids, or LPS pellets to encourage growth and tissue fullness
Aggression: High; extends strong sweeper tentacles capable of stinging nearby corals—maintain 15–20 cm clearance
Growth Rate: Moderate; develops broad, meandering ridges and fleshy folds as it matures
Care Level: Intermediate – hardy once acclimated but sensitive to parameter instability or excessive flow
Compatibility: Semi-aggressive; suitable for mixed reefs when spaced properly, pairing beautifully with other premium LPS such as Scolymia, Acanthastrea, and Trachyphyllia
